Gilbert Keith Chesterton, KC*SG (29 May 1874 – 14 June 1936) was an English writer. He published works on philosophy, ontology, poetry, plays, journalism, public lectures and debates, literary and art criticism, biography, Christian apologetics, and fiction, including fantasy and detective fiction. Chesterton is often referred to as the “prince of paradox”, The Time magazine, in a review of a biography of Chesterton, observed of his writing style: “Whenever possible Chesterton made his points with popular sayings, proverbs, allegories—first carefully turning them inside out.”
Chesterton is well known for his reasoned apologetics and even some of those who disagree with him have recognized the universal appeal of such works as Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man. Chesterton, as a political thinker, cast aspersions on both progressivism and conservatism, saying, “The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.” Chesterton routinely referred to himself as an “orthodox” Christian, and came to identify such a position more and more with Catholicism, eventually converting to Roman Catholicism from High ChurchAnglicanism. George Bernard Shaw, Chesterton’s “friendly enemy” according to Time, said of him, “He was a man of colossal genius”. Biographers have identified him as a successor to such Victorian authors as Matthew Arnold, Thomas Carlyle, John Henry Cardinal Newman, and John Ruskin.
“I’m tough enough to reach out for help”.
.Questions create reality. They create possibilities. A question begins a quest.
Questions create reality. The questions we ask very often determine the quest that we will persue, the path that we will take, the life that we will lead, whether it’s individually, whether it’s interpersonally, whether it’s organizationally.
.It is important to appreciate what is good. When we appreciate the good, the good appreciates——the good grows.
We see what we look for and we miss much of what we are not looking for even though it ‘s there. Our experience of the world is heavily influenced by where we place our attention.
I’ll take action and action will increase our level of confidence, and then more hope and optimism is a result. Hope and optimism will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
You have to take responsibility for your life is recognizing understanding that no one is coming. No one is coming to make your life better for you. You are responsible for your life, for your self-confidence, self-esteem and your happiness.
.19世纪40年代梭罗（写《Walden》的那位，教授说全名时把他的first name和middle name颠倒了）认为“most men lead lives of quiet desperation”，即“沉默的压抑”。
